Penguin Playground
-
The Penguin Playground is a space where Impro Brussels students of all levels can play together and learn from each other.
Every month, a student, with their own experience and background, will facilitate a session on a topic they like.
No pressure, just play and have fun.
Just like every project, this is a living thing. It lives on your participation, feedback, proactivity, and ideas. It’s not something that exists and we fit into; rather it’s something we make and shape together, day by day. So as we go, let us know your feedback and thoughts to improve it!

For March - June 2026, these will happen once a month in Institute St-Boniface Parnasse.

To facilitate a session, you don’t have to be a teacher… because these are not workshops. Rather, they are spaces to share Improv stuff that you like.
The only requirement is that you have completed at least one year of Improv. To participate in the group, there are no requirements.

Until June 2026, the Penguin Playground is free. No money is involved for anyone. Impro Brussels covers the expense for the venue.

That’s the idea, yes.
Spring 2026 is a trial run for this experiment.
Based on the participation we get in these months, we’ll decide if and how to carry it on to next season.
If there is a lot lot lot of hype right now, we can even make more sessions this spring! This is why, in the Google Form, we ask for facilitators despite having the sessions planned until June. These are for the continuation of the project. -

As a community, we should look out for each other. The Playground is a new project, and it’s on every one of us to make it work. Things like: support each other’s efforts; go if you signed up to; dare to take the lead in facilitating a session; participate and create hype; etc etc. The success, or continuation, of this project, depends on all of us, it’s not decided top-down.2.
Improvisers in their year from their 2nd to their 4th are at a high risk of being in a bad point of the Dunning-Kruger curve. Meaning, of feeling they have figured out much more about Improv than they actually have. The more years you spend in the craft, the less certain you are, and you start seeing very different perspectives from your intial ones.
Point is: if in the Playground you want to give a note on a scene, or a suggestion to an improviser, feel free; but remember, no one holds the Improv Truth, in the Playground you’re all equal, and the more passionately you think you’re right, the more you might not be. Instead of using phrases like “you should have done this”, “this should have happened”, use phrases like “I would have been interested in exploring this, because…”, and be open to a different perspective.
If you’re still talking about it after a couple of minutes, agree to disagree and move on.
