After having completed your intermediate path, you will access the advanced curriculum. In these months you will deepen your knowledge and practice of some important Improv concepts, in order to be able to take your playing to a whole new level.

2024/25 SEASON - WHO, WHAT, WHERE… WHY?

"Finding the game/game" with Frank and "Improvised Shakespeare" with Desi

4th FEBRUARY - 25th MARCH 2026
Frank will kick off with his "Finding the game/game" revelation on how to determine what the scene is about. What is the thesis statement of the scene? Why is this scene worth watching, why we're seeing this moment in time for these characters and not five minutes earlier or later.
All of this through two different approaches - one based on the improv format "Playing with secrets", in which the actors individually will get a full backstory and will discover it while playing. The other one will allow you to go into the crazy fun.

15th APRIL - 17th JUNE 2026
Desi will carry on with "Improvised Shakespeare - The philosophy of the truth"
“Speak the speech, I pray you… and make it up as you go!”
Setting foot into the world of the non-scripted Elizabethan drama, with a twist, or how to challenge and expand our actor's toolbox.
Classical theatre meets improv in the style of William Shakespeare. By using the rhythms of iambic pentameter, the poetic language, advanced acting techniques and the over-the-top tragic and comic characters, we’ll create hilarious, heartbreaking, overdramatic stories - on the spot.

ish - for Intermediates+

Our lives are affected by those who came before us, and left their influence hanging around. Like the people who lived in our house or apartment before us, whom we never never met, but they were the ones who put in those crazy curtains, or left that stain. In this workshop, participants will learn about performing with characters and elements from other dimensions, who are still somehow affecting us, even though we can’t see them.
What is like to perform with a ghost or someone who simply cannot be in the same place at the same time?
How can we perform with inanimate objects?
How can you perform at the same time as your alternative self? The one who speaks within your head?
How can you embody the emotional or atmospheric elements of a scene to support the other actors who are performing the dialogue?
How do we all manage to use the stage together, all at once, without making a mess, even when half the characters do not exist in our reality, and how much fun can we have using the same furniture as these presences.
The workshop also teaches a whole new show format, using the above ideas, called “All At Once”, which has proved very popular, very quickly, all around the world with audience and actors. The format teaches Nick’s signature multi-thread long form narrative structure that gives every story impact, then progressively sees all the stories from different time periods inhabiting the stage, “All At Once”.
This workshop will be experiential, inspirational, but also full of simple tools you can use in any type of performance.

COMMON MONSTERS
Sunday, May 31st
14h - 17h30
ish - Open to Beginners also!

Learn to conquer your fears about the areas of improv you think are difficult, by breaking them down into small achievable pieces, and discovering they were not difficult at all. Learn to improvise in a relaxed mindset, to allow you access all that stuff you’re learning, that you know you know, but sometimes don’t produce under the pressure of performing.
There’s an improv expression that goes, “Run towards the monster”, meaning that we might run away from certain things in life, but if we encounter a monster in improv, it’s going to be good for the scene.
Are there areas of improvisation that you consider more difficult than others? Do you sometimes avoid choosing these types of scenes, games, long-forms? Maybe you just fear really being in the moment? Did you imagine you needed a special talent or skill set to perform musical or Shakespearean improv, or another specialised style? Who told you that? Maybe it was yourself? Well, you can do it! You can do it, now! Do it, easily, in this workshop, and walk away amazed at yourself.
In the workshop, we’ll conquer several common monsters for improvisers, that turn out to be quite friendly in the end. We may have time to visit your own specific monster, too, but the simple principles are easily adapted whenever you meet a new one.
Whatever your experience level, leave this workshop believing that there is no area of improv that you cannot enjoy and be competent in.

He teaches and directs all styles of the craft, and has done so for 20 years, producing groundbreaking shows, “The Displaced” (refugee issues), “Crescendo” (a rock band with dramas), “Drivers” (about your internal monologues), “In Person 8” (improvised impersonations), “Parallel” (three physical stories at once), his popular vulnerable solo show, “Inspired”, and huge recent hit “All At Once” (stories from different dimensions all at once).
Nick tries to make the areas of improvisation that seem difficult, easier for performers, and reduce their worry, so that they can play at their peak. He also conducts workplace sessions, helping Olympians deal with adversity, and United Nations Peacekeepers to remain culturally aware. He likes to explore.
Nick is fascinated by people, and always aims to meet as many as possible, at festivals and arranged workshop visits.

WHY TAKE IMPROV ACTING CLASSES WITH IMPRO BRUSSELS?

At Impro Brussels we value process.
You will never be asked to “think fast”, or to “be funny”, or anything like that. Rather, to… have fun!
We have to get rid of our inner judge, and connect with our scene partners to share that unique, unrepeatable moment that is happening in the improvisation. That’s why it’s also called “unscripted theatre”.
You will get out of your confort zone in a safe space, you will have a confidence boost to speak in public, learn how to have charisma on stage, on top of course of learning techniques of improvised theatre!
Whether you are a complete beginner, or have some experience, we have the right class for you. We have improv for everyone.
Our classes are in English; it doesn’t matter if your level of English is not perfect - almost no one is a native speaker. You will see that words don’t even count that much, while you’re acting.
